Published 11:30 pm Friday, January 30, 2009

OAK HARBOR — Lake Stevens is headed to the 4A District 1 tournament.

Junior Shane Kaska scored 21 points and hit one 3-pointer and Lake Stevens pulled away down the stretch to take a 50-35 Wesco North victory over Oak Harbor.

“Kaska is a player,” Oak Harbor head coach Mike Washington said. “He’s definitely the real deal.”

The victory improved Lake Stevens’ record to 11-2 in league. Oak Harbor fell to 0-12 in league.

“Our game plan was to be methodical,” Washington said. “Slow it down, run our offense … It worked for a while.”

The Wildcats trailed by five at halftime and were within striking distance with five minutes remaining in the game before Kaska and Lake Stevens expanded the lead into double digits.

Oak Harbor sophomore Stevie Bratt scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in his first varsity start.

“He had an awesome game,” Washington said. “… He played with a lot of confidence.”
