MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The Mountlake Terrace boys basketball team has clinched the No. 1 seed out of the Wesco South for the 4A District tournament, and now has its eyes set on the division title.
The Hawks defeated Jackson 63-50 in a Wesco South game at Mountlake Terrace High School to clinch the top 4A seed and set up a showdown with Meadowdale on Wednesday to decide who will be the Wesco South champion.
“It was a good, solid game,” Terrace assistant coach Steve McCary said, saying it helps build “momentum going into the district tournament.”
Karsten Strieby finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Tyler Stracener also finished with nine rebounds and 13 points making 6-of-7 shots.
“(Stracener) played a great game the whole night,” McCary said.
Ryan Sells (four steals) and Jaykob Sells (four assists) rounded out the balanced Terrace attack with 14 points apiece. Their steals and assists “were huge,” McCary said.
Ryan Todd led Jackson (10-7 in league, 12-8 overall) with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
“He’s a very good player,” McCary said. “Jackson’s always a good team. We wanted to have a hand in their face at all times.”
