EVERETT — A little rain wasn’t enough to stop Jackson’s Tye Hastings from assaulting the goal in a non-conference boys soccer match Wednesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Hastings, a true forward for the Timberwolves (5-1-0 overall), recorded a hat-trick in helping lead Jackson to a 4-1 win over Mountlake Terrace (3-2-1).
Senior midfielder Devin Mendiola opened the scoring for Jackson in the second minute with a 30-yard blast from an Alex Taylor assist.
“He (Devin) created his own space,” Jackson head coach Brett Norton said. “He’s a creative player.”
Following Mendiola’s goal, Hastings took over — scoring twice (fourth and 10th minute) before halftime on the fast, wet turf. Mendiola assisted on Hastings’ first goal and Morris Vrachovski assisted on his second goal.
“Tye had a great cross from Morris (Vrachovski, on his second goal) and he just one-touched it past the goalie.”
The wet conditions caused both sides to have trouble gauging the ball’s pace, according to Norton.
“I think both teams started off pretty cautiously and we (Jackson) were able to pounce on that pretty quick,” Norton said. “… Both defenses were having a hard time with the forwards, just because of the conditions.”
Hastings, Jackson’s leading goal scorer, added his third goal in the 72nd minute after beating a couple defenders, Norton said.
“Tye had a great game,” Norton said. “…He’s a very skilled player, he distributes well, he uses other forwards and mids well for distribution.”
