Sarah Hensely hit a two-run home run and Alyssa Arndt pitched a three-hitter and struck out 16 batters as Granite Falls defeated East Valley of Yakima 4-2 Friday in the first round of the Class 2A state softball tournament in Selah.
Granite Falls advanced to a 4 p.m. quarterfinal game against Tumwater.
Hensley’s homer in the third inning broke a scoreless tie. Granite Falls (20-3) added two runs in the fourth when Haley Brennan’s deep fly ball to right field was dropped for an error.
At the Class 4A tournament in Tacoma, Stanwood won its opener, beating Rogers of Puyallup 4-1. Cascade dropped its first-round game, 2-0 to Walla Walla.
At the 3A tourney, also in Tacoma, Lynnwood lost to Union 2-0 in the first round.
