MUKILTEO — Kamiak capitalized on its depth and won six events — including two relays — to defeat Edmonds-Woodway 104-66 Tuesday in a Wesco South high school girls swim meet at Lynnwood City Pool.

“We are hanging in there,” Kamiak head coach Chris Erickson said, referring to the Knights’ record of 2-0 in league, 2-2 overall. “Today was team depth that earned us the win.”

Erickson shook up the lineup, putting girls in events not their normal forte, saying that at times it can create unique opportunites.

“We tried to give the kids a few different events to go in with our depth, and figured to let them race each other for state (qualifying times),” Erickson said. “Some were happy to have new events, others not so much.”

E-W’s Ashley Jay earned a state qualifying time in the 200-yard freestyle at 1 minute, 59.83 seconds. Erickson said that Jay was off the qualifying time by a second in the 500 freestyle.
