Front Porch: Chance makes an advance

Kamiak High School math teacher Chance McKinney is one of two finalists in Country Music Television’s Music City Madness online contest. The contest is CMT’s search for the next country singer and songwriter and features original songs with accompanying music videos.

Herald writer Amy Daybert wrote about McKinney, “Teacher’s got talent,” last Thursday on Page A1.

People can vote for McKinney’s song “Be Real” at www.cmt.com as many times as they want.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 15.

Stanwood’s Christmas: Stanwood Area Historical Society offers a Christmas party at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave. NW.

An Old-Fashioned Christmas is planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Norgaard center. Find carols, treats, Santa photos, crafts, children’s activities and tours.

Tree lighting tonight in Everett: Naval Station Everett plans to light its outdoor Christmas tree at sunset tonight.

Other trees decorated by the ships will be on display in the hall at the Commons Building for military folks and their families.
