MUKILTEO — Shorecrest sprinted to a three goal lead in the first half of Wednesday night’s non-conference boys soccer match against host Kamiak and staved off a late rally for a 3-2 win at Kamiak High School.

Eli Blauser scored in the 11th and 27th minutes for the Scots (6-0-0 overall) and Ian Adams (Glenn Paden assist) netted a goal in the 21st minute as Shorecrest grabbed a sizeable early lead.

“I don’t think we played very well in the first half,” Kamiak head coach Garfield Scott said.

The second half was much different, but the Scots were able to hold off the Kamiak (3-1-2) rally.

Brian Bae scored on a looping shot over the goalkeeper in the 50th minute and Jordan Meyers put in a 75th minute rebound, but the Knights couldn’t find the late equalizer.

“It was a good, physical match, especially the second half,” Scott said. “… We (Kamiak) had a couple of chances, but couldn’t put it away … It was definitely a different match in the second half.”

Shorecrest’s Michael Harris, the Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2009, assisted on Blauser’s first goal with one of his trademark front-flip throw-ins.

“It was a mistake on our end letting the ball bounce,” Scott said. “We got punished on mistakes tonight.”

A bright spot for Kamiak was the play of goalkeeper Caleb Smith, who made 14 saves.

“He made a lot of fine saves,” Scott said. “Everybody who stepped on the pitch, especially in the second half, really stepped up.”

Eric Baker earned the win in goal for Shorecrest, which is now the lone undefeated team in the Wesco South.

Jackson 3, Mountlake Terrace 2: At Everett, Tye Hastings scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 72nd minute, as Jackson took the non-league win. Monroe 1, Marysville-Pilchuck 0: At Monroe, with seconds left in regulation, Quinn Coan scored the game-winning goal for Monroe in the close Wesco North contest. After the game was delayed more than 30 minutes because of a thunderstorm, Jack Fortune crossed the ball to the middle, where Mitchell Balk received it and took a shot. Marysville-Pilchuck’s goalkeeper, Kyle Bluhm, blocked the shot, but it landed at Coan’s feet and he put it into the back of the net for the win.
