Prep girls soccer: Glacier Peak 2, Shorewood 1

SNOHOMISH — The Glacier Peak girls soccer team ran the gauntlet and came out unscathed.
At the final portion of a brutal stretch of games for the Grizzlies in which they played the top three teams in their conference, Glacier Peak rallied for two second-half goals to eke out a 2-1 Wesco 3A win over Shorewood Thursday night at Glacier Peak High School.
Glacier Peak remains undefeated at 7-0 in league, 8-0-1 overall. Shorewood dropped to 5-2, 5-4.
After falling behind, Glacier Peak’s Malloy Leahy rocketed a free kick from the 35-yard line, finding mid-center Brooke Gilbert, who nailed a header past Shorewood goalie Kelsey Jang.
It was one of the answers on a frustrating night for Glacier Peak — which had 24 shots on goal — and late in the game the Grizzlies got another answer.
In the 78th minute, Sarah Desautels corralled a shot from Brie Cleveland and sent a first-time volley from 5 yards out into the goal for a 2-1 lead and the eventual win.
Sophomore defender Sheridan Becanic highlighted Glacier Peak’s defensive stand, with Brooke Gilbert leading the charge at the offensive end.
Glacier Peak had wins against Shorecrest and Everett, completing a perfect record against the three teams trailing the Grizzlies.
Bailey Anderson was in goal for Glacier Peak.
