Two taken to hospital after candle starts house fire in Mukilteo

MUKILTEO — Two people were taken to a hospital Tuesday after a basement fire in the 1000 block of Loveland Avenue.

A candle appears to have started the fire just before 11:30 a.m., said Brian McMahan, assistant chief with the Mukilteo Fire Department.

The fire was out when crews arrived. A man was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. A minor also was hospitalized after the fire.

Firefighters from the Mukilteo Fire Department, Lynnwood Fire Department and Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded.

Damage was estimated at $500, with no structural damage to the home.
