Tsunami a non-factor

Kelly Westrick at Westport Charters said weather conditions did not allow boats to get out on last Saturday’s coastal lingcod opener, but that they’re hoping to make it out this weekend.

And no, the tsunami which caused such a horrendous disaster in Japan, and which did a certain amount of damage farther down our west coast, did not effect Westport at all.

“The experts say we had maybe a one-foot surge,” Westrick said, “but with a 15-foot swell running, who could tell?”
