MILL CREEK — The highly ranked Jackson girls volleyball team played its season opener on Tuesday and unfortunately for the Timberwolves it looked like their first game.

After taking the first two games against nonleague opponent Burlington-Edison, the Timberwolves (0-1 overall) eventually succumbed to their sloppy play and fell in five games 25-27, 18-25, 25-15, 25-23 and 18-16 to the Tigers.

“We definitely have a lot to work on,” Jackson head coach Ashley Allen said. “I think Burlington-Edison came out pretty strong, they always do. Their setter is awesome. She really leads their team and I think that is why they play so well.”

“But we had a ton of errors,” Allen added. “We had a lot of missed serves, a lot of unforced errors. We probably gave them 25 points just on our errors.”

Juniors Emmy Allen and Miah Diirell led the Timberwolves with 25 and 16 kills respectively. Diirell also added 16 digs in the losing cause.

“We didn’t really live up to all that hype … We’re gonna have a good practice (today) and hopefully comeback Thursday a different team,” Allen said of her team, which is ranked No. 56 in a national prep volleyball poll.

Jackson plays Snohomish on Thursday.
