ARLINGTON — The deadline to apply for the vacant seat on the Arlington City Council is Nov. 10.
So far, six people have shown interest in the position, said city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield.
The vacancy was created in September when Councilman Scott Solla died of cancer.
Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Nov. 10. Application forms are available on the city’s website, www.arlingtonwa.gov, at City Hall, or by calling the mayor’s office at 360-403-3441.
The City Council plans to review applications on Nov. 14. All people who apply will be interviewed on Nov. 16.
The council is expected to make a selection no later than Nov. 28, but by law has until Dec. 1 to make a decision, Banfield said.
The city of Arlington also is looking for volunteers to fill a vacancy on the Arlington Library Board and a vacant student position on the Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission.
The library board provides support and advice to elected officials on services provided by the Sno-Isle Regional Library system. The board also represents the city by advising Sno-Isle on policies for the development of the library’s collection, the use of the library and the quality of services provided.
The library board has five members, who each serve a five-year term and meet on a quarterly basis. The vacant position is open to any active library user who lives within the city limits.
The Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission provides advice to elected officials on parks, arts, recreation and urban forest issues facing the city. The commission has nine members, with two seats for Arlington and Lakewood High School juniors or seniors.
