SEATTLE _ The University of Washington men’s basketball team is halfway to knowing its future.

Sophomore star Terrence Ross, who averaged 16.4 points per game this season and was the Huskies’ go-to scorer throughout the National Invitational Tournament, announced Sunday that he’ll forgo his final two seasons at UW and go to the NBA.

“I discussed the pros and the cons with my family and I just think this is a great step for me and it’s time for me to take my game to the next level,” Ross said in a statement released through the school Sunday. “Being at Washington and playing for Coach (Lorenzo) Romar has been a blessing. On the court, off the court, with school and in life…it’s just been a real blessing to consider myself a Husky and get to where I am right now.”

Freshman teammate Tony Wroten Jr. had yet to announce his decision as of late Sunday afternoon.

Ross, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward, is projected as a mid-first-round pick in the upcoming NBA draft. He scored 30 points in two games this season and already appears to have NBA scoring ability despite a rather thin frame.

“We wish Terrence the best,” UW coach Lorenzo Romar said in a statement. “He was refreshing to coach because of his humility and team-first attitude. We wish him well and anticipate that he will have an excellent NBA career.”
