ASHLAND, Ore. — Three representatives from Portland’s Dignity Village homeless encampment plan to visit Ashland later this month to discuss whether a similar setup would benefit the southern Oregon city.
The Ashland Daily Tidings reported that organizers have raised $360 to fund the visit, and the Dignity Village representatives will have discussions with the community and Ashland City Council.
Two members of the Ashland Citizens for the Homeless Coalition visited the encampment near Portland International Airport in July and returned with a positive report.
Dignity Village offers occupants showers, a kitchen area, emergency transportation and access to the Internet.
Councilwoman Carol Voisin said a Dignity Village-type arrangement could benefit Ashland, but only if the local homeless community is willing to make it work.
