Body found near Wapato was homicide victim

YAKIMA — The autopsy on a body found by hunters east of Wapato showed extensive trauma to his skull.

The Yakima County sheriff’s office says detectives are investigating the death of 29-year-old Omar Vargas-Cortez of the Wapato area as a homicide.

The body was found Sunday afternoon and the autopsy was performed Monday.

The sheriff’s office says Vargas-Cortez had been contacted by law enforcement officers on Dec. 4 so his death was after that.
