3 Everett schools to offer free lunch for students during walkout

EVERETT — All students in the Everett Public Schools may receive a free lunch Friday.

Class is canceled that day while the teachers stage a one-day walkout to call attention to the Legislature’s education funding.

The lunch is free for all students, not just those in the free or reduced-price program, district spokeswoman Mary Waggoner said. In that sense, it’s an early start to the district’s summer lunch program.

The district will open three schools that day to serve lunch to students of any grade who show up: Emerson Elementary (8702 Seventh Ave. SE), Hawthorne Elementary (1110 Poplar St.) and Woodside Elementary (17000 23rd Ave. SE, Bothell).

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be a cold entree with fruit, vegetable and milk.
