Vancouver sees spike in multifamily residential units

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Vancouver is seeing a sharp uptick in multifamily residential units under review or construction after years of sluggish development.
The Columbian reported that the city’s Director of Community and Economic Development Chad Eiken told the City Council on Monday that there are more than 3,400 multifamily residential units in development currently.
The council had not been given an official update on development in the region for a couple of years because Eiken says there was not much activity after the recession. He says in the past maybe 300 to 400 units would be in development.
Eiken says the new development isn’t expected to ease the shortage of affordable housing in the city, but the increase in supply could free up lower-quality units.
