VERLOT — A man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Wednesday after a crash on the Mountain Loop Highway.

The crews at Snohomish County Fire District 23 in Robe Valley heard the crash just before 6 p.m. and went to help, said Shari Ireton, a spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the driver likely lost control of his truck on the icy road just west of Verlot. He was ejected and the truck landed on top of him in the water, Ireton said.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the truck wound up in the South Fork Stillaguamish River or a tributary stream.

No update on his condition was available Thursday. The man’s age was unknown.
