Emergency shelter on Christmas
The South Snohomish County Emergency Shelter Network activation has been activated for Dec. 25 for all individuals requiring overnight emergency shelter due to anticipated overnight freezing weather. A warming hut will also be open at the Lynnwood Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
The shelter network is open to families, women and men. Evening and morning meals will be provided. Meet at Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, no later than 7 p.m. People will be shuttled to a local shelter. A second meeting location is located in the Trader Joe’s parking lot on Highway 99 and 196th St SW; be there no later than 7:05 p.m.

Democracy nominees sought: The League of Women Voters of Snohomish County seeks nominations for its annual Democracy in Action Award. The winner may be a person or group showing exceptional commitment to enhancing democracy in the county.
Last year’s recipient was the independent radio station KSER’s public affairs department.
A nominee could be an elected official; someone who has worked to ensure voters’ rights or encourage civic engagement among women; or a person advocating for the league’s positions on natural resources, immigration, international relations, education or health care.
