Officers in Edmonds schools
Talks continue on whether to bring school resource officers back to Edmonds schools. It no longer appears the plans will be ready in time for the 2016-2017 school year, officials said.
The Edmonds district has a school resource officer at Lynnwood High School, which is in an unincorporated part of the county, but not at other schools in Edmonds, Lynnwood or Mountlake Terrace.
School resource officer programs have dwindled around the county since the recession, though many are being added back. Schools and police split the expenses, though some cities have special grants. In some places, including Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace, police departments have added extra school-specific duties to certain officers or beats.
Burn ban returns: A burn ban was put in place for Snohomish County on Thursday afternoon for the foreseeable future. Officials cited bad air quality as the reason. It is a Stage 2 ban, meaning natural gas and propane stoves may be used.
Get fit: Check out the Everett Park and Recreation’s fitness classes for free Saturday. There will be tai chi, yoga, paddleboard, barre fitness and a lot more. It’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Floral Hall and the swim center at Forest Park in Everett. More info:bit.ly/1RmQynj
