Ski season starts at Stevens; Baker and Crystal also open

Stevens Pass Ski Resort opened on Wednesday and reported that snow fell all day. It was falling again Thursday morning, and the resort reported 27 inches of snow at the base. The Brooks, Daisy, Hogsback Express and SkyLine Express lifts were open. Mill Valley was not yet open. Mount Baker also is open, of course — they claim the “deepest snow base in the U.S.” — from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The area reports 69 inches at Heather Meadows.
The only other area open in Washington is Crystal Mountain, with 21 inches at the base.
