The Roy Robinson dealership in Marysville donated a 12-passenger Ford van to the Snohomish County Sheriff Explorer Program on Nov. 30.

Dealership owner Gordy Bjorg Jr. was an Explorer through Washington State University as a young man and later served as a Whitman County sheriff’s deputy.

In the Explorer program, young people — including high-schoolers too young yet to drive — get a hands-on look at the work of the sheriff’s office with ride-alongs, compete with other Explorer posts, and volunteer at community events. Many of them seek careers in law enforcement.

More information about the Explorer program is at https://snohomishcountywa.gov/3534/Sheriffs-Explorers.

The van will get its first big outing Dec. 26, when the Explorers plan go to Explorer Academy in Yakima.
