More than 50 students from Everett Community College and Washington State University North Puget Sound celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by volunteering at the Imagine Children’s Museum, HopeWorks Station and EvCC’s Early Learning Center.
The groups painted, organized, cleaned and helped with other projects, joining volunteers across the country in participating in the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.
“People of different backgrounds came together and learned about each other, killing stereotypes and breaking the walls of inequality. People working side by side, hand in hand, giving to those that need it the most. That is what Martin Luther King’s dream was about,” said EvCC student Jordan Gilbert, president of the college’s Black Student Union club.
The nonprofit LINC NW coordinated the service projects.
Other organizations supporting the event included AmeriCorps and the Home Depot in Tulalip.
