The Herald’s 2017 All-Area Boys Soccer Teams

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Matt Williams, sr., Archbishop Murphy

Williams recorded 37 goals and 17 assists while leading the Wildcats to an undefeated season and the program’s third consecutive 2A state title. He was named the Cascade Conference’s offensive most valuable player.

COACH OF THE YEAR

George Dremousis, Mountlake Terrace

Dremousis led the Hawks to a 16-8-0 record and a 2A state semifinal appearance despite losing the services of five starters during the postseason. Terrace’s fourth-place finish at state was the program’s best in 25 years.

FIRST TEAM

Forwards

Matt Williams, sr., Archbishop Murphy

Bobby Stoyanov, jr., Mountlake Terrace

Stoyanov tallied 27 goals and 12 assists while leading the Hawks to their first state semifinal appearance in 25 years.

Ryley Johnson, sr., Lynnwood

Johnson scored 25 goals and helped lead the Royals to their first state-tournament appearance in 31 years.

Midfielders

Jason Fairhurst, sr., Snohomish

Fairhurst recorded 17 goals and 14 assists while helping lead the Panthers to a 3A state runner-up finish.

Keegan Rubio, jr., Glacier Peak

Rubio tallied 17 goals and 10 assists while helping lead the Grizzlies to a third-place finish in the 4A state tournament.

JJ Mitchell, sr., Oak Harbor

Mitchell scored 15 goals and added eight assists.

Sam Johnson, jr., Archbishop Murphy

Johnson recorded 11 goals and 10 assists while helping the Wildcats to an undefeated season and the program’s third consecutive 2A state title.

Defenders

Diego Rios, sr., Archbishop Murphy

Rios tallied nine goals and nine assists and was named the Cascade Conference’s defensive most valuable player. He helped anchor a Wildcats defense that allowed only seven goals all season en route to an undefeated campaign and the program’s third consecutive 2A state title.

Jason Kim, sr., Kamiak

Kim recorded eight goals and five assists while keying a Knights defense that limited opponents to 1.5 goals per match.

Camron Miller, sr., Glacier Peak

Miller recorded seven goals and four assists and anchored a Grizzlies defense that limited opponents to 1.2 goals per match. He helped Glacier Peak earn a third-place finish in the 4A state tournament.

Goalkeeper

Brihan Castaneda, sr., Mariner

Castaneda was the backbone of a Marauders defense that recorded nine shutouts and allowed only 15 goals all season — an average of 0.8 goals per match.

SECOND TEAM

Forwards

Logan Stapleton, sr., Snohomish

Stapleton tallied 17 goals and 13 assists while helping lead the Panthers to a 3A state runner-up finish.

Dane Evanger, sr., Lynnwood

Evanger scored 18 goals and helped lead the Royals to their first state-tournament appearance in 31 years.

Bakary Dibba, sr., Mariner

Dibba scored 15 goals and added five assists.

Midfielders

Elliot Misic, jr., Shorecrest

Misic recorded eight goals and six assists.

Josh Morehead, sr., Sultan

Morehead scored 12 goals and added six assists.

Chase Bolin, sr., Cedarcrest

Bolin recorded 10 goals and seven assists, helping lead the Red Wolves to a third-place finish in the 2A state tournament.

Armon Tenaw, jr., Edmonds-Woodway

Tenaw scored eight goals and added three assists.

Defenders

Ryan Henderson, sr., Archbishop Murphy

Henderson recorded four goals and seven assists. He helped anchor a Wildcats defense that allowed only seven goals all season en route to an undefeated campaign and the program’s third consecutive 2A state title.

Sam Polevoy, sr., Mountlake Terrace

Polevoy scored four goals and helped key a Hawks defense that posted 10 shutouts and allowed only 23 goals all season — an average of 1.0 per match — en route to the program’s first state semifinal appearance in 25 years.

Roman Voloshchuk, sr., Mariner

Voloshchuk helped anchor a Marauders defense that recorded nine shutouts and allowed only 15 goals all season — an average of 0.8 goals per match.

Goalkeeper

Daniel Mycroft, so., Archbishop Murphy

Mycroft allowed only three goals all season, saving 75 of 78 shots. He helped the Wildcats to an undefeated campaign and the program’s third consecutive 2A state title.
