Young woman hit, killed by passenger train in Silvana

SILVANA — A young woman was killed Saturday afternoon when she was struck by an Amtrak passenger train.

The victim, 18, was standing on a railroad bridge along the 1900 block of Pioneer Highway near Silvana, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The train came around a corner at about 60 mph, officials said. The train’s operator sounded the horn. The victim attempted to flee but she was hit and died at the scene.

Detectives were investigating Saturday evening.
