Man surrenders after standoff with SWAT at Everett home

EVERETT — A man refused to surrender to police for several hours Monday after firing a gun inside a house on Seventh Avenue SE.

A neighbor’s house was struck by bullets but no one was injured, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.

The man, 24, reportedly got into an argument with his mother. He then retrieved a gun and fired more than one round inside his house. Neighbors called 911 around 7:15 p.m after their home was struck.

Police converged on the scene and cleared out nearby houses. The man’s mother left her home without injury.

The man refused to come out and a SWAT team was called in. He surrendered several hours later, Snell said.

The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm, both gross misdemeanors.
