The Rotary Club of Arlington on Oct. 14 worked to frame two new staff cabins at Camp Fire Mountain, in Skagit County, for the Mount Baker Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Eventually, six of the cabins will be tree houses in the forested area along Lake Challenge. The club often helps with projects at the Boy Scout camp.

Earlier, the Arlington Rotary on Oct. 7 partnered with the American Red Cross to install smoke detectors at Riverside Mobile Home Park in Arlington. Smoke detectors were installed in hallways and bedrooms of nine homes.

That partnership is one of many across Snohomish County that aims to install smoke detectors in homes that have none. So far, about 160 smoke detectors have been installed in 70 homes.

Detectors are installed free for those who cannot afford to purchase their own. A limited number of specialized bedside alarms for those who are deaf or hard of hearing also are available each year. Learn more at getasmokealarm.org.
