Yes to turn signal — eventually

Back in 2015, Andreas Tsircou wrote in about the intersection of 112th Street SE and Seventh Avenue SE, hoping a right-turn signal could be added since it’s a T-intersection and, well, it just makes sense.

City staff agreed and said they’d make the upgrade within a year.

A little over two years later, though, Tsircou wrote in again to note that he hasn’t seen a signal yet.

“When we got into the details of planning the implementation of the proposed … right-turn signal head, we found it will be significantly more complex than initially thought,” traffic engineer Tim Miller explained. “We will need to upgrade the controller and use overlap phases. The current controllers don’t have a key feature that would have simplified implementation.

“We do have a signal work plan in place,” Miller added, “and we expect we can accomplish this in 2018.”
