Community Transit starts construction on Green Line stations

Construction has started on the 34 stations that will be used for the Swift Green Line, Community Transit’s second bus rapid transit line that is scheduled to open in early 2019.

Station construction will be in stages. First up are four station pairs on Airport Road — at Highway 99, 112th Street, 100th Street and Kasch Park Road. Work will then move east and south along the route. All stations are expected to be complete by the end of 2018.

Several road improvements come as part of this project:

– An extended merge lane will be created on eastbound Airport Road just east of Highway 99.

– An extended right turn lane to Mill Creek Road will be created on northbound Bothell-Everett Highway just south of 164th Street SE (Mill Creek Road).

– An extended merge lane will be created on southbound Bothell-Everett Highway just south of 208th Street.

– Intersection improvements for pedestrians, such as audio alerts and new curb ramps.

– Adaptive traffic signals to use real-time traffic data to improve traffic flow.

Earlier this year, work began on the Seaway Transit Center and new right-hand lanes on 128th Street approaching I-5. Both of those pieces of the Green Line project also are expected to wrap up by late 2018.

When complete, Swift Green Line buses will run every 10 minutes between Bothell-Canyon Park and Boeing-Paine Field along the Bothell-Everett Highway, 128th and 132nd Streets and Airport Road.
