Prep basketball: Archbishop Murphy girls lose district title game

MOUNT VERNON — The Burlington-Edison girls basketball team jumped all over Archbishop Murphy in the first half to coast to an easy 76-54 win in the 2A District 1 Tournament championship game Friday at Mount Vernon High School, handing the Wildcats just their second loss of the season.
Emily Rodabaugh scored 22 points to lead Archbishop Murphy (21-2 overall), but the Wildcats couldn’t contain the Tigers’ Allyson Ray, who finished with a game-high 30 points.
Archbishop Murphy also had difficulty slowing down the Tigers’ offense early on, as Burlington-Edison raced out to a 24-8 lead after the first quarter. The Tigers (18-5) padded their advantage in the second and led 45-19 at the half, removing any suspense from the contest.
BOYS
Shorecrest 70, Meadowdale 55
Shorecrest defeated Meadowdale in a 3A Northwest District tournament game at Jackson High School to keep its season alive.
The Scots will play Arlington on Saturday, with the winner clinching a berth to the state regional round.
Arlington 62, Edmonds-Woodway 28
Arlington outscored Edmonds-Woodway 26-2 in the second quarter to pull away for a 3A Northwest District tournament win at Jackson High School.
The Eagles will play Shorecrest on Saturday with a state regional berth at stake.
Tulalip Heritage 52, Mount Rainier Lutheran 48
Josh Iukes scored a game-high 17 points and helped Tulalip Heritage earn a 1B District 1/2/3 tournament win over Mount Rainier Lutheran at Mount Vernon Christian High School.
Isaac Hadley-Comenote scored nine points, and Paul Shay Jr. and Rodney Barber added eight apiece for the Hawks (21-5).
The win advances Tulalip Heritage, which already has clinched a state berth, to a third/fourth-place game against Cedar Park Christian (Mountlake Terrace) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon Christian High School.
Cedar Park Christian-MLT 76, Pope John Paul II 38
Cedar Park Christian (Mountlake Terrace) rebounded from its first loss of the season to rout Pope John Paul II in a 1B District 1/2/3 contest at Mount Vernon Christian High School.
The Hawks will play Tulalip Heritage on Saturday in a seeding contest.
