EVERETT — A campaign event is planned Sunday for Everett Districts Now, the group seeking to make the majority of Everett City Council seats directly elected from geographic districts.
The group recently updated its petition for a second run, this time aimed at the November ballot. The event is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Snohomish County PUD building, 2320 California St. Speakers include Councilwoman Brenda Stonecipher.
An earlier version of the petition failed to gather enough signatures for the 2017 election, and a majority of the City Council declined to place it on the ballot. The petition calls for five of the seven council seats to have districts.
Everett Districts Now leaders estimate they need 4,000 signatures this time around. Additional information is posted on the group’s Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the City Council is pursuing its own districting measure. A briefing is scheduled for Wednesday’s meeting. The council has not specified how many districts it would seek.
Voters likely will be asked to decide both measures this fall.
