EVERETT — The owners of a condemned apartment building at 3130 Broadway have been fined $1,000 for code violations.
The fine was levied in March after a review by the city of Everett’s hearing examiner. Half the amount is suspended so long as required repairs are made by mid-September.
Until recently, people were living in the apartments, called Broadway Station. The city in November determined the deteriorating, century-old structure was too dangerous for tenants. It took months to get everyone relocated.
The property owners said they planned to renovate the building as affordable housing. They attributed the problems the city found to miscommunication and misunderstanding.
Code enforcement officers recently noted that the eight-unit building has been boarded up.
A violation of hearing examiner orders can be a misdemeanor offense.
