Diana Ellerman, a social studies teacher at Cedarcrest Middle School, was recently honored by the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Joint Base Lewis-McChord with the General John J. Pershing Award. The Pershing Award, named after the World War I general, recognizes the top graduate in each College distance-learning class.

Ellerman was one of four officers from among 2,700 graduates of the college in 2017 selected to receive the award.

Besides teaching, Ellerman looks ahead to a principal internship in Marysville in 2018-19. She earlier completed a master’s degree and doctorate. She also sees command opportunities in her future in the Army.
