Stanwood High School finished in a close second place in the national Hi-Q championship, held virtually against teams from Pennyslvania, Alabama and Wisconsin. A Pennsylvania team won. The state has had a school win every national Hi-Q contest; its tradition with the program dates to 1948.
Going into physics questions, Stanwood held a four-point lead. The other school pulled ahead with a correct answer in American government. A final toss-up question in math could have brought the pair back into a tie, but no team was able to solve the symbolic function algebra problem.
