Judicial appointee is a specialist in child and family law

EVERETT — An attorney who has focused her attention on helping courts better serve children and families has been named the next Snohomish County Superior Court judge.
Jennifer Langbehn is Gov. Jay Inslee’s pick to replace Judge Michael Downes, who is scheduled to retire May 31, the governor’s office announced Friday.
Langbehn has been serving as a Snohomish court commissioner pro tempore and has focused her legal practice on family law and dependency matters, most recently at the Law Offices of Moriarty & Associates in Mill Creek.
She also has served on the Snohomish County’s Table of Ten program, which aims to improve how the courts work on child-welfare matters.
“Jennifer has extensive experience in family law and working with juvenile offenders and individuals struggling with issues of addiction, mental health, and homelessness,” Inslee said in a press release. “She has a strong reputation in the Snohomish County community as a hard worker and I look forward to the contributions she will bring to the bench.”
Langbehn earned her law degree at Seattle University and is a graduate of The Evergreen State College.
Downes announced his retirement earlier this year. He served 14 years on the superior court bench. Previously he’d spent 21 years as a Snohomish County deputy prosecutor.
