EVERETT — The city has a new fire chief.
The appointment of Dave DeMarco, 47, was announced Friday, after a national search.
DeMarco has been with the Everett Fire Department since 1994, most recently serving as the interim assistant chief of operations. His new job starts in June.
“We had a very strong field of candidates, and Dave’s intellect and proven leadership abilities set him apart,” Mayor Cassie Franklin said in a prepared statement.
DeMarco started his career as a volunteer firefighter on Mercer Island. He also served as a Marysville fire commissioner from 2004 to 2016. His new salary will be $170,460.
The last chief left in early 2017. Someone else was serving in an interim role since then.
The Everett Fire Department employs about 170 firefighters and paramedics, among other staff.
