Providence Regional Medical Center supervisor Peter Smeltz was presented with a Patriot Award May 15. Smeltz was nominated by U.S. Coast Guardsman Petty Officer Nat Lofton, a facilities maintenance specialist for Providence Regional Medical Center.

The award is offered through the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense program that seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
