The Snohomish Education Foundation recently awarded hefty grants to local schools.
A $22,000 grant to the Snohomish School District’s career and technical education program is part of a two-year annual fund goal to benefit computer science programs at Centennial Middle, Valley View Middle, Glacier Peak High and Snohomish High schools. This donation focused on a college-level Advanced Placement computer science class, software and teacher training.
Another $22,000 grant to the district provided tuition waivers so that more students could attend a four-week Summer Science & Arts Academy. The summer program features field trips, lessons, a student musical, robots and more to prevent the “summer slide” in learning. In all, over 540 students attended this year, from kindergarten to eighth grade. The Foundation’s scholarships helped students from low-income families and students for whom English is not the primary language spoken in the home.
