The annual Mutt Strut was held Aug. 11 at Langus Riverfront Park next to the Everett Animal Shelter. The new location and longer hours gave extra space for dogs and their owners to enjoy a day of contests, speakers, services, walks and adoptions. More than 1,800 people attended.

Panting dogs and people alike appreciated the cooler temperatures that day, and downpours held off until the last half-hour, noted Maryke Burgess, recreation supervisor for Everett Parks and Community Services. This year’s event honored senior dogs, with adoption specials, a parade and senior pet “lounge.”

There also was a special guest appearance by Noodle, whose wheeled cart has grown with her since she experienced Internet stardom as a puppy left at the shelter.

Event sponsors were McClain Insurance Services, Diamond Veterinary Hospital, Pilchuck Animal Hospital, Housing Hope and Total Rentals.
