The YMCA of Snohomish County recently partnered with Crystal Spring apartments on Casino Road for a second year to offer free swim lessons to local youth in the complex’s outdoor pool. Donations from individuals and corporations to the Y’s annual campaign funded the program.

“Most of these kids have never had a swim lesson before, but they live in apartments with pools. These lessons are critical to ensuring kids are safe and have fun in the water,” said Carl Funnell, director of aquatics and recreation for the Mukilteo YMCA, who oversaw the lessons.

The weeklong program served 21 kids, who were encouraged to keep learning through the Y’s Access For All program, which helps with the costs of swim lessons. Last year, the Y provided over $20,800 in financial assistance for free or reduced cost swim lessons to low-income kids and adults.
