8 local schools named Schools of Distinction

The Center for Educational Effectiveness named its 2018 School of Distinction Award Winners. The schools showed the most improvement over a five-year period in reading and math, or in graduation rates for high schools. Statewide, 91 schools were named award winners.

Local winners were Darrington Elementary School and Darrington Middle School (Darrington School District); Edmonds Elementary School (Edmonds School District); Garfield Elementary School (Everett School District); Cathart Elementary School, Seattle Hill Elementary School and Centennial Middle School (Snohomish School District); and Elger Bay Elementary School (Stanwood-Camano School District).

All the local winners have won the award in past years. Garfield, Cathcart and Elger Bay schools have each won the award four times.
