Celebrate the holidays at these community events

There are 16 hyperlocal ways to celebrate the holidays — all free and many are happening this weekend.

Several cities are hosting tree lightings and parades, there’s a lighted boat parade in Everett, the lighting of a water tower in Marysville, and the lighting of a Christmas tree and giant menorah in Lynnwood.

Here is a rundown by city of those events.

Arlington: A Santa parade at noon Dec. 1 along Olympic Avenue is followed by live music, caroling, visits with Santa and wagon rides at Legion Park, 114 N. Olympic Ave. More at www.arlingtonwa.gov/hh.

Bothell: A tree lighting festival on Main Street is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 2. The tree lighting will be at 5 p.m. More at tinyurl.com/EDH-tree1.

Brier: The city’s annual celebration of the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, a tree lighting and other activities begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at Brier Park, 2903 228th St. SW. More at tinyurl.com/edh-tree2.

Camano Island: Events scheduled from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 8. Singing by local elementary school students, followed by a tree lighting at 5 p.m. at Camano Commons, 848 N. Sunrise Blvd., Camano Island. Limited parking, so arrive early. More at tinyurl.com/edh-tree3.

Gold Bar: A tree lighting and parade is set from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 15. The parade begins on Lewis Street and ends at Gateway Park at the corner of Fifth Street and Orchard Avenue. More at tinyurl.com/edh-tree4.

Granite Falls: A tree lighting festival is from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Granite Falls Historical Museum, 109 E. Union St. with cocoa, cookies, free Santa pictures and caroling. More at tinyurl.com/edh-tree5.

Lake Stevens: The city’s Winterfest event is scheduled from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 on Main Street in Lake Stevens. Santa will arrive at 5:30 p.m. to light the Christmas tree. More at tinyurl.com/edh-trees6.

Lynnwood Christmas: Tree lighting and holiday activities from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at Silver Creek Family Church, 5326 176th St. SW. Event will include a tree lighting, food trucks and live music. More at silvercreekfamily.org/what-we-do/christmas-tree-lighting.

Lynnwood Hanukkah: The event is 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave. W. Features a giant menorah lighting and a performance by the Klez Katz Klezmer Band. More at tinyurl.com/edh-trees7.

Marysville: Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Dec. 1 at Comeford Park, 514 Delta Ave. A holiday concert begins at 5:30 p.m. The Electric Lights Parade begins at 6:30 p.m. along State Avenue to Comeford Park. The lighting of the water tower follows the parade. More at tinyurl.com/edh-trees8.

Mill Creek: A tree lighting is at 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at 15728 Main St. The event will include performances by the Henry M. Jackson High School drumline and the Voice Northwest chorus. More at tinyurl.com/edh-trees9.

Mountlake Terrace: The singing of carols and other holiday celebrations begin at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W. This event includes the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree, constructed with 1,800 lights and sitting atop the city’s water tower. More at tinyurl.com/edh-trees10.

Mukilteo: The city’s holiday tree lighting and open house is 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave. Festivities include music performed by local students, cookie decorating, and photo ops with Santa and Mrs. Claus. More at tinyurl.com/edh-trees11.

Port of Everett: Day-long events beginning at 11 a.m. Dec. 1 at the Port of Everett’s Waterfront Center, 1205 Craftsman Way. Holiday tree lighting and Santa visit from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and a parade of boats by the Mukilteo Yacht Club from 5:30 to 6 p.m. More at tinyurl.com/edh-trees12.

Sultan: Winterfest celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Sultan High School commons and gym, 13715 310th Ave SE. Live music by school and area music groups including the Morning Start Lutheran Choir and the Sky Valley Fiddlers. More at www.skyvalleychamber.com.

Stanwood: Daylong events are scheduled for Dec. 1 and include the closing of streets near the city’s police station, at 8727 271st St. NW, for Santa arriving by fire truck at 3 p.m. and a tree lighting at 4:30 p.m. More at tinyurl.com/edh-lights13.
