Woman who served time for vehicular assault arrested on DUI

STANWOOD — The driver gave the Oldsmobile some distance.

He was on I-5 north of Smokey Point when he spotted a car ahead of him that was swerving between lanes.

It nearly hit a guard rail and did strike an orange construction barrel before taking the Stanwood exit onto Highway 532.

The man following the Oldsmobile called 911.

He reported that cars heading east had to make evasive maneuvers to avoid a crash.

At one point, the Oldsmobile stopped in the middle of the road for no apparent reason.

Finally, it turned into the Haggen parking lot.

At that point, the man continued on his way.

A Washington State Patrol trooper found the Oldsmobile in the parking lot. It had an orange smudge on the driver’s side. The engine was running and the parking lights were on.

A 57-year-old Camano Island woman was in the driver’s seat and appeared to be sleeping.

The trooper wrote in a report that the woman seemed lethargic, and her eyes were bloodshot and pupils constricted. During a field sobriety test, she was asked to stand on one leg, but the trooper became concerned that she might fall over.

Lab tests showed that the woman had oxycodone, cocaine, methamphetamine and ecstasy in her system, court papers said.

She was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of drugs.

In this case, the charge was filed as a felony, given her previous record.

In 2012, she was sentenced to prison after being convicted of two counts of vehicular assault after driving impaired prior to a crash in Island County, according to court records.

She remained Friday in the Snohomish County Jail on $50,000 bail.
