Driver suspected of using meth before 5-car crash last week

EVERETT — Police suspect a driver used methamphetamine before causing a five-car crash on Evergreen Way during the morning rush hour Aug. 30.
The 35-year-old Everett woman was booked into the Snohomish County Jail later that day for investigation of vehicular assault and possession of a controlled substance, an arrest report states.
The wreck unfolded around 8:45 a.m. on a Friday, just north of where Evergreen Way meets SW Everett Mall Way.
Witnesses reported seeing the woman driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup southbound at a high speed before hitting the brakes hard and losing control, according to court papers.
The pickup hit a small box truck and a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle, then veered into the northbound lanes and struck other vehicles, including one head-on.
When police officers arrived, the woman who had been driving the pickup was on the ground, receiving medical treatment, arrest documents state.
On the pickup’s floorboards, police found a kind of pipe known as a tooter commonly used for smoking drugs.
On the woman’s clothes, they found a small plastic bag with clear shards of suspected methamphetamine.
She was booked into the jail after receiving treatment at a local hospital, the documents state. Police obtained a blood sample to test for drugs at a later date.
The other driver in the head-on collision, a 54-year-old woman, was hospitalized with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
