The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 21-27. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced on next week’s Prep Focus page. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Emma Arceo | Kamiak | Girls Cross Country

Arceo, a sophomore, edged Monroe’s Tryggve Trivett by one-tenth of a second to win the girls race at the Wesco Championships on Saturday at Lakewood High School. Arceo completed the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 37.2 seconds.

Bailey Carter and Domonique Gadbois | Granite Falls | Girls Soccer

Carter and Gadbois, both seniors, each recorded a hat trick Wednesday in the Tigers’ 6-1 win over Coupeville. The pair have combined for 24 of Granite Falls’ 40 goals this season. Gadbois has 18 tallies and Carter six.

Brenden Charbeneau | Jackson | Boys Cross Country

Charbeneau, a junior, won the boys race at the Wesco Championships on Saturday, covering the 5,000-meter course at Lakewood High School in 15:53.8.

Efton Chism III | Monroe | Football

Chism, a senior, accounted for 233 yards of total offense and three touchdowns Friday in the Bearcats’ 32-10 win over Glacier Peak. He ran for 27 yards and one TD, caught six passes for 88 yards and a TD, and completed three passes for 118 yards and a TD.

Tyler Cochran and Ethan Hoglund | Lake Stevens | Boys Tennis

Cochran, a senior, and Hoglund, a junior, outlasted the Glacier Peak tandem of Kyle Nget and Ethan Stutzman in a wild three-set match Wednesday to claim the 4A Northwest District doubles championship and a berth in next spring’s state tournament. After winning the first set 6-4, Cochran and Hoglund lost the second set 7-6 (7-4). The third set also went to a tiebreaker, with the Viking duo winning 7-6 (7-3).

Emily Mekelburg | Arlington | Volleyball

Mekelburg, a sophomore outside hitter, recorded 13 kills, four aces and five digs Thursday as the Eagles blanked Oak Harbor in a Wesco 3A/2A match. Mekelburg’s fourth service ace came on match point and, coupled with Stanwood’s win at Snohomish, clinched the conference title for the Eagles.

Grace Morgan and Jersey Razzano | Meadowdale | Girls Swimming

Morgan, a senior, won the 200-yard freestyle and 500 freestyle, and Razzano, a senior, won the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke at the Edmonds School District Championships on Saturday. The two also were members of the Mavericks’ victorious 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Ellina Powell | Jackson | Volleyball

Powell, a sophomore setter, recorded 12 service aces in the Timberwolves’ five-set Wesco 4A victory Oct. 22 at Mount Vernon. Jackson coach Mindy Staudinger could not confirm that the 12 aces are a school record, but said it’s the most anyone has had in the past 16 seasons of Jackson volleyball.

Roman Savchuk | Mariner | Football

Savchuk, a senior, caught four passes for 79 yards and a touchdown, returned an interception for a score and recovered a fumble in the Marauders’ 45-28 win over Cascade on Friday.
