MONROE — A high-speed pursuit on Christmas Day ended when a woman crashed on U.S. 2 near Monroe, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Everett police initially contacted the 49-year-old woman around noon in Mill Creek, sheriff spokesperson Shari Ireton said. The woman reportedly drove off, and police pursued, but soon lost sight of her.

Sheriff’s deputies located her vehicle about 15 minutes later, on Marsh Road, Ireton said. The ensuing pursuit wound its way onto Highway 9, and then eastbound on U.S. 2. The woman’s car allegedly reached speeds approaching 100 mph.

Up ahead, Monroe police placed spike strips to cut off the chase. The woman drove over them, lost control and went off the road near the intersection of Fryelands Boulevard, Ireton said.

Deputies arrested the woman. Aid was on standby, but no injuries were reported.
