LYNNWOOD — An argument over cooking led a man to shoot his uncle at a Lynnwood home early Thursday morning, police say.
Four men were at the Lynnwood home, smoking and drinking, when the suspect apparently became upset about something, the uncle reported to police. They went outside and, according to witnesses, the nephew took out a gun and shot his uncle twice, once in each leg.
The nephew reportedly fled with another man in a maroon Chrysler 300. The uncle was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he later talked to detectives and said his nephew was the shooter.
Later that morning, around 7 a.m., police found the nephew at his home in Everett.
At first he denied shooting his uncle, or having a gun, court papers say. Having been convicted of a felony crime, he wasn’t allowed to have a gun.
Police arrested the suspect and interviewed him again at the Lynnwood jail. There, he eventually reported his uncle had been acting drunk and aggressive. The suspect claimed he wanted to leave, but his uncle was blocking the way. So he took out a gun with the intention of firing at the ground, he reported.
But then he saw his uncle grab his leg and fall to the ground, he reportedly said. The suspect said he realized that he shot him, according to court papers.
The nephew said he later took apart his gun, a Glock .40-caliber pistol, and threw part of it into Lake Washington from the I-90 bridge and the other part off the I-5 bridge near the University District.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
