Parking rules extended for heavy trucks outside city limits

EVERETT — The Snohomish County Council has renewed parking restrictions for heavy trucks, trailers and other commercial vehicles in unincorporated areas.
The law prohibits such vehicles from being parked on urban residential streets or in adjacent areas outside city limits, where the county has jurisdiction.
In non-residential areas, large commercial trucks and trailers cannot be parked for more than 12 hours within a 24-hour period, under the law.
The council initially approved the rules in October 2019 after residents complained about trucks parking for weeks, even months, on arterial routes.
The law was set to expire this fall, but the council on Wednesday made it permanent by passing an amended version that nixed that sunset date.
It applies to vehicles with a maximum operating weight of 14,001 pounds or more.
