Everett Elks Lodge names new officers
The Everett Elks Lodge No. 479 has announced new officers for the years 2021-2022.
They are Jessica Mumm, Tessa Long, Paul Clark, Greg Tisdel, Bill Douglas, Debbie Ritchie, Nancy Wolke, Wendy Cook, Jennifer Ozbun, Jenny Steele, Mary Thomas, Beth Beecher, Valerie Anderson, Aaron Reid and Danen Barnhart.
The Everett lodge was chartered in 1899. Its motto is “Elks Care, Elks Share.”
Edmonds music teacher receives scholarship award
Roxanne Kar was honored by the Music Teachers National Association as the recipient of the Piano Technicians Guild Foundation Scholarship during the 2021 MTNA National Conference.
Kar runs an independent piano studio in Edmonds. She began teaching her first student at age 16. As a young adult, her primary area of study was in general music education, although her true passions are performance and piano pedagogy.
She is an active member of the Edmonds Music Teachers Association where she leads and organizes the Edmonds Musicianship Festival. In 2014, she was awarded the Member of the Year Award from the Edmonds MTA.
Two Snohomish County art students receive national honors
Locals Daeton Oclaray and Susanna Lee were recipients of the National Scholastic Award.
Oclaray, a senior at North Creek High School, received a regional Gold Key and a national Silver Medal for the portfolio, “History Repeats,” drawing and illustration, and the individual submission, “Stolen Innocence,” drawing and illustration.
Lee, a freshman at Lynnwood High School and J Art Academy, won a regional Gold Key and an American Visions Medal for the individual submission, “Face Them All,” drawing and illustration.
The students’ artwork will be part of the Scholastic’s National Virtual Exhibition. It can also be viewed on the Schack Art Center website.
