Police: Bothell woman stabs mother in neck

BOTHELL — Shortly after her release from an involuntary commitment due to mental illness, a Bothell woman was accused of stabbing her mother in the neck.

Just before 5 a.m. Friday, the mother was asleep in her bedroom in their home north of Bothell. She awoke to find her 23-year-old daughter on top of her, according to a Snohomish County detective’s report. The daughter was trying to strangle with her left hand.

Unsuccessful, she reportedly then cut her mother’s throat with a kitchen knife. The mother was taken to Swedish Mill Creek, where she got about 25 stitches. Her daughter had a history of abusive behavior, and had just ended a three-week involuntary commitment, the mother told police.

The daughter fled, according to court papers. Police dogs searched, but couldn’t find her.

The next day, the daughter was in her mother’s front yard. The mother called the police. When deputies arrived, they again looked for her, according to the police report.

Eventually, they found her near an apartment building close by. The deputies arrested her for investigation of first-degree assault.

She remained in the Snohomish County Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $20,000, according to jail records.
